here is how to run a simple MsSQL query from powershell.

$associd = Read-Host “Associate Number”

echo (“Assoc Information for ” + $associd)   

$query = “SELECT associd,last,dept,zip,hired FROM TABLE_NAME WHERE associd = ‘” + $associd +”’”

sqlcmd -S “SERVERNAME\WITHQUOTES” -Q $query
